Let the Fun Begin

Here are pictures of the house when we got it "as is".  It has three bedrooms, one bath, living, dining, and kitchen.

This is the "detached" garage.  Not sure why it was so far from the house but we will see if we can find out.  Is that how they built them back then?  My grandparents was also detached, across a caliche driveway that ran parallel to the road and had animal pens attached.
I fell in love with this bathroom.  I know it looks a little rough but it has a great cast iron claw foot tub with a pedestal sink.  Thankfully, the commode does look to be a "period piece" and has been updated.
This is a good picture of the five panel doors that we found throughout the house.
The master bedroom is connected to the bathroom and has a door going out to the front porch which I understand was very common.  It allowed you to open the door and get a breeze.  You will notice the air conditioning unit in the window so there is not central air-conditioning like we are used to.
Notice the white cabinet in the left corner of this picture.  These are closets--two doors that open.  Little different than the big walk in closets of today.  People definitely did not have as much "stuff" to put in a closet like we do today.

This is the dining room--it's pretty big and wide open.  It's kind of the hub of the house---all the rooms come off of this room.  If you will look closely, you can see the ceilings are very high.  We haven't measured them yet but they are at least 10 feet if you just compare to the guys in the picture who are close to six feet tall.  They could even be 12 feet high in this room.

This is the second bedroom that is located on the back side of the house.  This used to be the kitchen and the door in this picture went out to the back porch.

I loved the metal cabinets in this kitchen.  It definitely reminds me of some of the cabinets they used back in the day.  I hope we can salvage them but will see!

This is the third bedroom and it is located opposite of the kitchen shown above.  It was added on along with the kitchen.  Don't know when but will have to see if can find out.

Now the fun part of cleaning out all of the stuff that has been left---we will keep some of the furniture to re-do but there will be a lot of treasures that won't get to stay.

More to come!
