Windows Looking into Fire

Another big piece of the house has been completed so we are one step closer to getting the outside closed in.  The 13 windows have been installed with a lot of "shims", re-built frames, and holding windows in place so the nail gun could secure the new window.  It was pretty uneventful for the most part other than the day of the wildfires.

This is a picture taken by Cole Love looking north from Talpa on FM 2132 on March 15th.

This is a picture between Coleman & Runnels county where the fire is said to have started from a welder's spark in Crews.

While we worked on the Thursday, March the 16th we could smell the fire and see the billowing up of the smoke to the north as the fires ignited more fires moving toward Glen Cove.  It was a surreal feeling to be that close to something so powerful and what you can't tell by the picture or a video is how fast the wind was blowing and pushing the fire further north.  Growing up in West Texas you are used to seeing tornado clouds building up and moving toward you but you still have time to get out of it's path.  But when you see this you know there is no way to escape a fire with such strong winds behind it moving at a high rate of speed.  We felt lucky that it wasn't heading south towards us but we did have to go home through Ballinger instead of back down FM 2132.  Thankful for the firefighters and many volunteers who fought this fire---all in all about 7500 acres burned.

Back to the window installation----here are some pictures of the finished windows installed and painted.  Yes, black trim won out.

Now on to the exterior doors and framing the wall in the kitchen and bedroom.  Yes, we are about to move inside...….and there is much more to come!
