Cast Iron Tubs & Doors

Memorial Day was a great time to reflect on our family and friends who have served or are serving our country to whom we say "Thank You".  At the same time I was reminded of Ross Martin, Jr. and his time spent serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.  Thank you Ross Jr. for your service.

Memorial Day weekend we installed two front doors, laid plywood in the master bedroom for flooring, and installed the last window in what will become the kitchen.  To install this last window we had to recruit some help from my brother and son-in-law just to hold the double window up while my husband nailed it in place.  Thank goodness they were available---that window was heavy!

The window went into place for the most part with ease and the two doors were installed perfectly.  There were a few moments of swearing when things weren't level and required lots of extra shimmy--ing.  All things we have become accustomed to.

The good news is we are making steady progress now that we are inside working.  My other son-in-law helped us move the cast iron tub out so that we could refinish it and work on the bathroom floors, walls, etc.  The tub has been sanded down and is about ready for a coat of paint.  In the process of sanding it down, my husband noticed what he thinks is a date for the tub: August 14, 1941.  We know the bathroom was built on after the house was built in the 1920's so that means for almost 20 years they did not have this bathtub.  Does that mean that they used a washtub to bathe prior to that? Probably.

So what's next?  The electrician who has been about 4-5 weeks out is scheduled for the second week of June to do his part; the HVAC unit is being installed the June 11th (thanks to my cousin's son who lives in Dallas and works in the HVAC business--thank you Tyler!); two back doors, finish trim, floors, and kitchen cabinets are coming up soon.

It's definitely taking a village to get some of this work done and we appreciate everyone who has joined in on this effort!

As we have been saying.....there is definitely more to come!
